Believe it or not, there are nuisance trees in the Portland area that the City actually wants you to remove. If you have a nuisance tree on your property you do not have to apply for a permit before you remove it. The only time you would need to file for a permit to remove a nuisance tree is if it is in the cities right of way.
We would advise you to check with your city to see what trees are considered nuisance trees before removal. Examples of nuisance trees in Portland include Norway Maple, Tree of Heaven, English Hawthorn, English Holly, White Poplar, English Laurel, European Mountain Ash, and Siberian Elm. For a complete list please visit The City of Portland’s website.
